I hope you are enjoying your summer break and finding creative things to do with your free time. My name is Angel Castro and I am the new Athletic Director here at Bloomington High School. For those of you who do not know me, I have been an active member in the Bloomington athletic community for the past 10+ years. I have worked in CJUSD as a student teacher, substitute teacher, PE teacher, athletic coach, and most importantly as a fan of all our students!
I start my journey as an Athletic Director during interesting times to say the least. As if trying to fill the shoes of the former Athletic Director was not going to be tough enough, our Bruin athletes will be transitioning into a new 13 school conference AND during a global pandemic!
Thank you to Anna Collins for the hard work you put into this and we are all sad to see you go. Best of luck to you and your family and we know we will see you around!
Bloomington welcomes participation into The Arrowhead Athletic Conference as it begins its existence in the 2020-21 school year. The conference consists of thirteen schools (Arroyo Valley, Bloomington, Carter, Colton, Eisenhower, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Jurupa Hills, Kaiser, Rialto, Rim of the World, San Gorgonio, and Summit) and are placed into one of three leagues. The individual league names are the Sunkist League, San Andreas League, and Skyline League. League placement for each sport will be determined yearly by a competitive equity model.
Now to what sports will look like in 2020-2021. CJUSD is to begin this school year in Distance Learning and transition to Hybrid Learning when it is safe for students/staff to physically return to school. Today CIF announced a change to the sports calendar for 2020-2021 and it includes just two sports seasons that begin in Mid-December. Fall sports will be: Cross-Country, Football, Competitive Cheer, and Volleyball. Spring sports will start in March. Spring sports will be: Baseball, Basketball, Competitive sport cheer, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track & field, and wrestling. By pushing the calendar back, we hope to have High School sports this year (both fingers and toes crossed)
It’s an honor to be the athletic director at Bloomington High School and I’m excited to get to work and to see you all soon (even if it’s virtually for now). There will be more news and updates in the following weeks. Until then stay safe and remember tough times never last, tough people do!
