Our mission at Joe Baca Middle School is to increase student mastery of State content standards, to help develop responsible, capable and productive members of society, and to use technology as a tool to increase student learning.
A Message from Dr. Scribner
Welcome to the 21/22 school year Grizzlies!
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! Our JBMS staff remains committed to your child’s academic and emotional success. We are beyond excited to welcome our students to campus. Our JBMS staff has been working tirelessly to reopen campus and provide all our students with a safe place to learn. Mrs. Villegas and I are so excited to be part of the JBMS team this year. Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 4th.
If you have not turned in your immunization records you will not be able to pick up your schedule. You may come by campus anytime this week to pick up an emergency card and some other required documentation we will need in order to give your student their schedule.
This year CJUSD is offering families the option of updating student emergency information through the Q Parent Portal. If you already have a Q Parent Portal account, you are encouraged to log in prior to your student’s registration day and update the emergency information online. If you do so, you do not need to complete the paper copy and your student’s emergency contact information will be updated automatically. Completing the emergency information online will help make the registration process much quicker.
If you do not have a Q Parent Portal account, you are strongly encouraged to call our office at (909) 580-5014 to obtain your user name and password so that you can access your account and complete your child’s emergency information. Also, this is a great tool for parents to use to help monitor their student’s grades and attendance as well as easily email teachers. An application for your cell phone is also available, making monitoring your student a little more convenient for parents and guardians.
JBMS is proud of the many programs we offer to our students such as AVID, Dual Immersion, Leadership courses, Pathway courses and so much more. We strive to equip each student with organizational skills to be academically successful, not only during their time here, but in high school and beyond. In order to help us achieve this, students will receive a 3 ring binder, some basic school supplies, etc.. The binder should include 7 dividers, a pencil pouch, pens, pencils, highlighters and lined paper. Students will be expected to have this binder with them every school day.
P.E. Clothes- Students will receive more information about PE clothes during their PE classes.
Finally, please take a moment to review our student handbook located on our school website. Students will also receive a copy on the first day of school. This will help answer most of the general questions you may have about our school. Our website is updated with information regularly. My wish is for our Grizzly community to be physically and emotionally safe and healthy. As we work together to transition our students back to our campus, their wellbeing will continue to be a priority. Following CDC recommendations, regardless of vaccination status, all individuals on CJUSD campuses will continue to be required to wear a mask while inside a building. We are happy to provide students with a disposable mask if they do not have one. We will all need to work together to do our best to keep each other safe.
We are here to serve you. Our School Counselors are also available to assist students with academic or emotional needs. Please reach out to us if you need any assistance throughout the year. I look forward to welcoming our students and families back to campus.
Wishing you and your family health,
Dr. Michelle Scribner, Principal
