The Elementary Curriculum & Instruction Department is committed to helping every student achieve excellence in meeting the rigorous expectations of the Common Core State Standards, build a foundation for college and career readiness, and develop as life-long learners ready for the challenges of the 21st century. As students and teachers engage with curriculum, instruction, and assessment, the ESD TK6 Department supports their success by planning, organizing, and coordinating the implementation of key instructional programs for TK-6 students.

In Colton Joint Unified School District, our classrooms are dynamic learning environments where students engage with technology, collaboration, and critical thinking daily. Teachers integrate digital tools seamlessly, using Chromebooks, iPads, and interactive platforms to enhance instruction and personalize learning. Students collaborate through Google Workspace, develop research-based presentations, and strengthen their skills with adaptive learning programs. Beyond technology, instruction is designed to build deeper understanding—students analyze complex texts, apply evidence-based reading strategies, and explore multiple problem-solving approaches in math. Our commitment to innovation ensures students develop the skills needed for success in an ever-evolving world.

 


Literacy Support

At Colton Joint Unified School District, we are committed to ensuring that every student becomes a proficient reader by third grade and graduates as a literate individual. Literacy is the foundation for lifelong success, reducing societal inequalities and opening doors to future opportunities. We achieve this by creating literacy-focused environments that use systematic, research-based instruction centered on the Science of Reading, ensuring students receive the support they need to master foundational skills at each grade level. Through collaboration, professional development, and family engagement, we empower all educational partners—teachers, staff, administrators, and families—to support student literacy.
