The Colton Joint Unified School District
serves the educational needs of approximately 19,000 students, grades TK-12 as well as preschool and adult education. It includes 18 elementary schools, four middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, one alternative school, one continuation high school, and a preschool center.
CJUSD was formed effective July 1, 1966, after a special election where voters of Bloomington School District, Colton Joint Unified School District, San Salvador School District, and Terrace Union School District agreed to unify the four districts.
CJUSD covers an area of 48 square miles mostly San Bernardino County in Inland Southern California and includes all or parts of seven different cities. Its population is approximately 87 percent Hispanic, 5 percent African American, 4 percent White, and about 2 percent Asian. About 20 percent of students are English Learners.
