Important 2011-2012 Calendar Update from the Superintendent |
 |
 |
 |
 |
On Thursday, January 19, 2012, our Board of Education approved a revised calendar for the current school year for grades K-12. This calendar was changed to accommodate furlough days for certificated staff, which were part of the collective bargaining agreement reached by the district and the Association of Colton Educators shortly before Winter Break.
While we regret having to shorten the calendar mid-year, as well as eliminating precious school days for our students, this decision was necessary because of the harsh budgetary times facing school districts across the state. Download the revised 2011-12 School Calendar. Please note the following changes from the previous calendar:
-
The last day of school has been moved up four days. June 1 will be the last day of school for all grades except 7th grade. The last day for 7th grade will be May 31.
-
All school sites will now be closed for two additional days: Friday, March 16 and Friday, May 25
The above changes do not apply to district offices, which will remain open. District pre-school programs run on a separate calendar and will keep families informed about any changes to their schedule. On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to thank everyone in the Colton Joint Unified School District for their patience and understanding in this matter.

Budget Update The Board of Education and management continue to take steps to deal with our current economic crisis. A Budget Update Newsletter gives the latest information to keep the community informed. A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
section has also been posted with the opportunity to ask questions. Superintendent's Budget Message / Letter from the County Facilities Construction Update Construction started in July on the new Bloomington High School Math and Science Building. Plans are moving forward to begin construction this fall on Middle School #5 and in January on the Colton High School Math and Science Building. We will soon select architects to begin work on cafeteria/multipurpose rooms for both Colton and Bloomington high schools. Meanwhile, progress continues at Grand Terrace High School, where buildings are taking shape.
