District accepts applications for Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee
    1/1_561761816_1350.jpg

Colton Joint Unified School District announces an opening on its Measure G Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee for a member representing a bona fide taxpayer organization.

When district voters approved school construction and modernization bond Measure G in 2008, an oversight committee of local residents was formed to review expenditures and inform the public about the progress of bond-supported school construction projects. The Board-approved advisory committee meets quarterly to review expenditures and the progress as set forth in committee bylaws and ballot measure.

Proposition 39 requires that the committee include members of five specific groups. The current opening is a two-year term for a member of a bona fide taxpayer organization. Any applications not chosen for the current opening will be retained for future openings.

Applications should be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 15, to the District Office at 1212 Valencia Drive in Colton. Please call the district's Business Services office at (909) 580-6601 for more information.

Important 2011-2012 Calendar Update from the Superintendent

On Thursday, January 19, 2012, our Board of Education approved a revised calendar for the current school year for grades K-12. This calendar was changed to accommodate furlough days for certificated staff, which were part of the collective bargaining agreement reached by the district and the Association of Colton Educators shortly before Winter Break.

While we regret having to shorten the calendar mid-year, as well as eliminating precious school days for our students, this decision was necessary because of the harsh budgetary times facing school districts across the state.

Download the revised 2011-12 School Calendar. Please note the following changes from the previous calendar:

    • The last day of school has been moved up four days. June 1 will be the last day of school for all grades except 7th grade. The last day for 7th grade will be May 31.
    • All school sites will now be closed for two additional days: Friday, March 16 and Friday, May 25.

The above changes do not apply to district offices, which will remain open. District pre-school programs run on a separate calendar and will keep families informed about any changes to their schedule. On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to thank everyone in the Colton Joint Unified School District for their patience and understanding in this matter.

    Facilities Construction Updates
CJUSD's Capital Improvement Program, made possible by community-approved bond Measures B & G, continues to make great strides.  While students and teachers at Bloomington High School moved into their new Claude "Bud" Johnston Math & Science Buildings last October, the district's other three major projects continue to progress.

The slide show on the right features views of the Colton High School Math & Science Building, Joe Baca Middle School and Grand Terrace High School. For more detailed information about these projects, reports or to submit a bid on a project, visit our Capital Improvement Program website.

    Facilities Construction Projects
Construction started in July on the new Bloomington High School Math and Science Building. Plans are moving forward to begin  construction this fall on Middle School #5 and in January on the Colton High  School Math and Science Building. We will soon select architects to begin work  on cafeteria/multipurpose rooms for both Colton and Bloomington high schools.  Meanwhile, progress continues at Grand Terrace High School, where buildings are  taking shape. Facilities Update For more detailed  information, reports or to submit a bid on a project, visit our Capital Improvement Program website.

    Budget Update
The Board of Education and management continue to take steps to deal with our current economic crisis.  A Budget Update Newsletter gives the latest information to keep the community informed. A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section has also been posted with the opportunity to ask questions.  Superintendent's Budget Message / Letter from the County
