Colton Joint Unified School District serves a diverse student population of 24,473 students; grades are pre-K-12 representing three communities: Bloomington, Colton and Grand Terrace. There are 18 elementary schools, serving grades K-6: four middle schools for grades 7-8, and four high schools, including one continuation school and one alternative high school. Ethnic distribution in the district is 77% Hispanic, 10% White, 8% African American, 1% Asian, and 4% other (CBEDs 2007). Twenty-four percent of the District's students are identified as English Learners, and 64% qualify for the federal lunch program. Nearly six percent (5.8) of the students are eligible for the Gifted and Talented Education program and approximately 9.6% of the students qualify for Special Education services.
